TOP 15 DOGS WITH STRONGEST BITE FORCE

Today, we are going to go over the top 15 dogs with the strongest bite force. Dogs are well-loved because of their reliability, loyalty, and warm nature. However, they could still cause a bit of pain especially when they decide to bite!

Make sure to watch until number 1, because it’s a breed that really gets along with kids despite having the strongest bite force of all!

 Pitbull – 235 psi

At number one we got the Pitbull. Pitbulls get a bad rap. Known for being aggressive and a bit violent, these dogs are actually not inherently aggressive. Their macho demeanor is actually caused by environmental factors such as owners who encourage their aggressive behavior because of their reputation as a feisty breed. Despite this, Pitbulls can be really friendly and warm. They are also intensely loyal to their owners, which makes them ideal pets and companions.

What’s important is that they get trained early on to be the best versions of themselves. While not as strong of a bite force as other dogs on this list, 235 psi is still pretty strong, and this is why they are commonly bred as fighting dogs.

German Shepherd –238 psi

At number 14 we have the German Shepherd. This popular dog breed is commonly thought of when you think of guard dogs and is typically used as police dogs. A reason for this reputation could be because of how trainable they are and, with 238 psi as their bite force, they can clearly take care of themselves and their owners.

They are also considered as one of the top working guard dogs because of how intelligent and trainable they are. Aside from this, they are very active, energetic, and playful, so make sure that you’re physically prepared if you consider getting this breed as your pet!

American Bulldog – 305 psi

At 13 we have the American Bulldog. They may have a bite force of 305 psi, but this breed is a softy at heart. They are great family pets because of how affectionate they can be especially towards children. They are also fairly easy to train and groom. An active breed, they need lots of exercise and playing time to not get bored.

Siberian Husky – 320 psi

In the 12th spot, we have the Siberian Husky. This wolf-like breed is a popular breed for many Americans. However, it is important to note that they have a bite force of 320 psi. While not quite high on the list, it is still a fairly strong bite force that can cause great damage. Because of this, they must be trained extensively to lessen the chances of anyone getting bit by this playful and happy dog.

Once they are tamed, however, these dogs are quite friendly and affectionate towards adults and kids alike, making them great family dogs.

Rottweiler – 328 psi

Number 11 we have the Rottweiler. Just like German Shepherds, Rottweilers are also typically seen as guard dogs. This does not come as shock, especially with their 328 psi bite force – a significantly higher bite force than that of the German Shepherd.

Typically used in the police force or military, this breed is very intelligent, trainable, and calm. Despite this, they can also be great family dogs. Rottweilers are very playful and active and are typically friendly with new people. They might, however, struggle with interaction with other dogs.

Leonberger – 399 psi

At number 10 we have the Leonberger. The Leonberger’s bite force is a big jump from the Rottweiler’s at 399 psi. This can make them appear intimidating, but this mixed breed dog is actually a gentle giant. Considered as one of the largest dog breeds, they are a combination of Great Pyrenees, Newfoundland, and Saint Bernard. They are also sensitive and affectionate, making them perfect and loyal companions.

Akita Inu – 400 psi

coming in at number 9 Ranking really close to the Leonberger, we have the Akita Inu which is quite known for its good looks, which has increased its popularity over the years, has a bite force of 400 psi. This breed can be a good family dog and is playful and affectionate. However, if they are not trained well, they can be a bit aggressive, so it is vital that they are trained and socialized early on. To maintain their overall well-being, this breed requires constant physical and mental activity.

 Wolf Dog – 406 psi

at number 8 we have the Wolfdog with a bite force of 406 psi. With its intimidating appearance and name, it is not a shock that this dog breed’s bite force is just as unnerving. These dogs are very wolf-like and are typically not kept as a family dog since they can be quite difficult to train and get along with.

It is said that wolf dogs hold the “sixth position in dog bite fatalities by breed” in the US. It is said that the more wolf-like they are, the harder they are to control. This breed comes from the mating of a dog and a breed of wolves such as a gray wolf, Eastern wolf, red wolf, or Ethiopian wolf.

Dogo Argentino – 500 psi

At number 7 We have another big jump when it comes to bite force with the Dogo Argentino’s bite force of 500 psi. This breed is known to be energetic, and they are natural hunters. They are fairly intelligent but are quite difficult to train. Despite these, the Dogo Argentino is a very affectionate dog and would be a perfect addition to your family.

Dogo Canario – 540 psi

At number 6 the Dogo Canario, Just like the Dogo Argentino, this breed is part of the Mastiff family and also has quite the bite force of 540 psi. They were historically used in wars and were typically bred for fighting, guarding, and some herding. This could explain their aggressive behavior. However, they can be quite affectionate if they are raised around children and other pet dogs.

English Mastiff – 552 psi

Here is another Mastiff on the list at number 5 the English Mastiff, With a bite force of 552 psi, this breed is hard to ignore. However, despite their strong bite force, this dog is actually very gentle, energetic, and lovable, and is really good with humans. They are quite playful, making it quite hard to train them. They need the freedom and space to run around and be active.

Dogue de Bordeaux – 556 psi

Not far ahead the English Mastiff is the Dogue de Bordeaux at number 4 with a biteforce of 556 psi. This breed is more reserved than the previous breeds mentioned in this list. While they can be very loving and affectionate, this would require that they know the person quite well first. They’re pretty hesitant around new people and dogs.

Another thing about this breed is that they are quite lazy compared to a lot of dog breeds. They are not that into playing around or having any physical activity.

Tosa Inu – 556 psi

At number 3 we have the Tosa Inu, This dog breed matches the bite force of the Dogue de Bordeaux at 556 psi. This Japanese dog breed is a mix of Bulldog, Great Dane, and Mastiff, and their size could be quite imposing. The Tosa Inu is not a natural family dog and has aggressive tendencies. However, if they are trained early on, they can be really affectionate and loyal to children and adults alike.

Cane Corso – 700 psi

We are now nearing the end of this list. So, who is the runner-up when it comes to bite force? With a significantly higher bite force than the Tosa Inu, the Cane Corso takes the number 2 spot in our list with a bite force of 700 psi! The Cane Corso is so strong that it was typically used as a hunting dog for large animals such as boars. Impressive, right?

Despite this, the Cane Corso could be very affectionate towards other dogs and humans. However, they struggle interacting with strangers and might need some training. This breed is also known for its high intelligence and trainability. Lastly, their high energy level requires them to have plenty of exercise and walks.

Kangal – 743 psi

Now, for the number 1 spot, we have the Kangal. This Turkish dog breed has an impressive bite force of 743 psi, which is a far cry from the Pitbull’s mere 235. While they could be challenging to raise because of their tough personality, once they see you as their family, they can be intensely loyal and protective. This can mean that they can be quite territorial.

Once properly trained, the Kangal breed is a pretty good family dog and they are also great with children, making this breed an overall wonderful pet and companion.
