THESE ARE 10 MOST TRAINABLE DOG BREEDS

Raising a well-rounded dog is ideal but it’s easier said than done. While all dogs can be trained, some breeds have an easier time learning new tricks and commands than others. In this article, we go over the most trainable dog breeds that love learning new tricks and are easy to train dog breeds you won’t have too much of a hard time with. we might even include a bonus at the end when you finish reading the article 😉

NUMBER 10: AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERDS

Australian Shepherds have sharp minds and energetic personalities. They are also loyal to their owners and they aim to please. Because of these qualities, they’re easy to train. They can be amazing dogs but only when they’re fairly trained. It’s important to know that a bored Australian Shepherd is a recipe for disaster. They can be destructive and loud when you leave them with nothing to do. This is why you should constantly devise daily tasks for this dog. Training your Aussie should be quite easy. Just make sure to keep them active. A daily 30-60 minute exercise will keep this dog satisfied. Make sure to exercise both their body and brain. This means regular exercises and mental stimulation such as puzzles. However, when dealing with a puppy, it’s best to stick with low-impact activities until they mature.

NUMBER 9: ROTTWEILER

Though the Rottweiler has gained stereotypes of being wild and dangerous, they’re actually loyal, loving, and intelligent dogs. Rotties, as they’re nicknamed, are actually one of the smartest canines in the world. Because they are smart and have a high level of trainability, these dogs have been commonly used as service and working dogs. When the Canadian and American Kennel Club carefully deliberated the top 79 most intelligent dog breeds in the world, the dashing Rottie ranked 9th.  When it comes to training any dog, intelligence isn’t the only important aspect but it sure does play a major role on their trainability. And with the Rottweiler, you already have it in the bag.  Compared to most breeds, Rotties are easier to train. Though sometimes, they do have their stubborn streaks. Because this dog is incredibly loyal, it takes less time and effort to train them. As you may know, a loyal dog strives to please their owners and the Rottweiler certainly wants nothing more than that.

NUMBER 8: SHETLAND SHEEPDOG

Responsive and attentive, the Shetland sheepdog is easy to train with a calm disposition and light hands on the leash. Shelties only need verbal commands in training. Because this dog is extremely sensitive to stress, they don’t respond well to harsh treatment and they’ll probably become more stubborn with that. Positive reinforcements should make a well-behaved Sheltie. Though this dog is athletic, they don’t need miles of running exercises. Regular activities with tons of mental stimulation should be enough to make them happy. They’re already playful and always up for anything so you wouldn’t have to worry about that. Most Shelties also have a sweet temperament and soft personality. They are kind to other animals and they behave well when they’re around other people. However, this is not the most confident dog breed. When they are not socialized at an early age, they can become extremely shy and timid. Though they are reserved around strangers, they aren’t aggressive.

NUMBER 7: PAPILLON

Though most toy breeds are stubborn and hard to train, the Papillon is different from the bunch. Papillons have a friendly and happy temperament and they make for great family dogs too. They are incredibly confident but they are not aggressive. The Papillon is also well known for their intelligence and obedience. Because they’re always up for anything, training is not something you have to force them to do. When training this dog breed, always be sensitive. They don’t respond well when they’re yelled at. Small but active, this dog also loves to learn new tricks and commands because they love to please their owners. However, it’s best to supervise them when they’re releasing energy during playtime. This way, you can ensure that they’re safe from injuries.  Papillons are intensely social dogs so it’s best to not deprive them of their need for social contact.

NUMBER 6: DOBERMAN PINSCHER

The Doberman Pinscher is a highly trainable dog. This enthusiastic breed is famous for their ability to retain and learn their training. Dobies are highly intelligent and they also respond quickly to any command. They are observant dogs who can tell if you’re a passive and timid owner. That’s why you should be firm and confident when training them. With steady training and a good owner, this dog is promising. The Doberman Pinscher’s reputation precedes them and they’re usually stereotyped as vicious animals. However, these dogs are actually obedient and loving. Dobies love to be involved in family activities too. If there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s that the Doberman Pinscher is a highly devoted dog that’ll do anything to make their owners happy.

NUMBER 5: LABRADOR RETRIEVER

If your heart is set on getting a Labrador Retriever, well then we have good news for you. This dog is known for its trainability. There are various factors that make them trainable. First, they are highly motivated to comply with certain tasks because of their eagerness to make their owners happy. Second, they’re always hungry. Perhaps, the difference between a Golden Retriever and a Labrador Retriever is that the latter acts as if they haven’t eaten in years. Labs are highly motivated by food and they’ve earned the reputation for it. Because of their unique blend of affability, cognitive ability, and desire to make their owners proud, they’re the type of “intelligent” that’s willing to learn. Other dogs would have been stubborn but not this one though. Their trainability not only makes them excellent dogs but dependable and loyal ones too.

NUMBER 4: GOLDEN RETRIEVER

There’s a reason why this dog breed is popular in the United States. The Golden Retriever is an incredibly intelligent, loyal, and obedient dog. In fact, they’re so smart that they ranked as the 4th smartest breed out of 138 evaluated breeds. Because they love to please people, training is twice as easy. They love spending time with their humans and training can function as quality time as well. Many dog owners would say that Golden Retrievers are easy to train and these testimonies are definitely true! This dog responds well to positive reinforcements such as using treats as a reward. However, this dog breed can easily become obese so you might want to hold back on unhealthy junk. While they’re easy to train, they do, however, have short attention spans. Remember to keep training sessions interesting and fun. If you want a well-rounded Golden Retriever, starting your training as early as possible would be ideal. They’ll get used to working with you and it’ll be easier to handle them then.

NUMBER 3: GERMAN SHEPHERD

German Shepherds are loyal, brave, and intelligent dogs and this makes them easy to train. There’s a reason why they are commonly chosen as police and military dogs. Because of their fearless disposition, they’re not afraid to do anything. This means you can push them to greater forms of training. Their loyalty means they want nothing but to make you proud so they’ll do their best to perform well in tasks that you give them. Because German Shepherds are incredibly smart, training them can be easy. They love to complete tasks and follow directions. However, this dog needs different and creative forms of activities in order for their brains to be stimulated. They thrive in an environment with attentiveness, structure, and high energy. With the right and proper methods, you can have a reliable, loyal, and well-behaved German Shepherd.

NUMBER 2: STANDARD POODLE

The Standard Poodle might hide their brain under those gorgeous and bushy curls, but their intelligence definitely shines through. This charming dog has outstanding obedience and agility. The poodle has proven itself for the past 400 years as a reliable and loyal dog. They wouldn’t be that if they weren’t willing to learn and follow commands. According to Canine Journal, the Poodle ranks second as the smartest dog in the world. For you to have an amazing Poodle, early socialization and adequate training is mandatory. Because this dog aims to please, training them would be a piece of cake.

NUMBER 1: BORDER COLLIE

Known for being whip-smart workaholics, the Border Collie is a highly trainable dog. They learn tricks and commands so quickly that after they complete a task, it seems like they’ll say, “Is that all you wanted?” Because this dog is so athletic, you might want to keep up with the pace. It takes a lot of training, agility, and intelligence to herd sheep and as the premier sheep dog, the Border Collie keeps their remarkable credentials. This dog is always bursting with energy and they’re always down with anything. Because of this activeness, they need frequent exercise and mental stimulation. Without an outlet to pour out their energy, Border Collies can become hyperactive. Overall, you just need good and consistent training to end up with a remarkable dog.

BONUS: PEMBROKE WELSH CORGI

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is always eager to learn. Smart, adorable, and energetic, this dog can easily adapt to new concepts that’s essential to their training. Pembroke Corgis are currently ranked as the 11th smartest dog in the world. This can play a major role in training.
